Based out of Austin, Texas, Julie Spako endeavors to strike a balance between the complexity of drawing with the simplicity of hand-built pottery. Each piece is an original, created by hand from start to finish. Using high fire porcelain and dark brown stoneware, Julie keeps the structure of each hand-built piece simple so as to highlight the complexity of the hand-drawn, hand-painted glaze work.

Drawing inspiration from her grandmother’s Blue Willow collection, as well as rich textiles and embroidery patterns, Julie strives to incorporate the same level of detail and complexity of design into her pieces as those represented in the fibers. The importance of utilizing beautiful objects for everyday use is cornerstone to her way of living and being as an artist and as a collector of ceramics.

All glazes are food, dishwasher, and microwave safe.
